The country’s first rapid train between Delhi and Meerut is going to be operated soon. This high speed train will have many facilities like metro, but advance facility will also be added to the metro. From its tracks to coaches and stations, many such technologies are being used, which are being used for the first time in the country. For example, it will generate electricity while passing through the underpass, which will supply electricity to that area.
Similarly, in view of security, guards will be installed near the gates at the stations, like it happens at metro stations. When the train comes and stops then it will be open and passengers will be able to travel safely.
Now in this sequence, preparations are being made to provide another facility to the passengers. NCRTC officials on Saturday informed that Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) passengers who will travel business class between Delhi and Meerut will now be provided with the facility of “Premium Lounge”. These premium lounges will be built at all stations of the “High-Speed” rail.
What are the facilities available in Premium Lounge?
According to PTI, an NCRTC official informed that a premium coach will be made in each train. Where business or premium class fare will be higher than the normal ticket. The premium lounge will be similar to the lounge at airports and will have all the amenities of business class. The premium lounge will have luxurious ambiance, comfortable sofas, magazines, books, coffee and tea vending machines. On the other hand, some luxury facilities will have to spend extra money.
For whom are the coaches reserved?
RRTS trains will have standard as well as premium class (one coach per train). Along with this, one coach will be reserved for women passengers. The premium class coach will be larger and will be provided with sloping seats. These premium coaches of RRTS trains will be delivered through a special lounge at the platform level. “The fare for both the classes is yet to be decided,” the official said.

According to officials, the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor will have an automatic fare collection (AFC) system and QR code tickets for passengers. Passengers will be using QR code of tickets which can be generated digitally on NCRTC mobile app or on its website.

Passengers in RRTS trains will be provided with Transverse Cushion Seating, Wide Standing Space, Luggage Rack, CCTV Camera, Laptop and Mobile Charging Facility, Dynamic Route Map, Auto Control Ambient Lighting System. The width of the aisle with grab handles and rails has been kept large for comfortable travel for the standing passengers in these trains.
How long and at what speed will the train run
It is noteworthy that the target of making Rapid Rail first between Sahibabad and Duhai for a distance of 17 km by 2023 and for the entire route by 2025. It will be the fastest trains in India as it has a design speed of 180 kmph and an operating speed of 160 kmph. The average speed of these RRTS trains will be 100 kmph.
