Indian Railways has started its first Pod Hotel on Mumbai Central Railway. Celebrated to relieve travel fatigue, such pod hotels are in high demand in countries like the US and Japan. Equipped with modern amenities, this capsule room hotel offers rentals starting from just Rs.999 onwards. Keeping in mind the convenience of Indian passengers, this fare has been kept very low.
The first pod hotel of the Indian Railways was inaugurated digitally on Wednesday by the Union Minister of State for Railways, Raosaheb Danve from Churchgate station in South Mumbai. The Minister also inaugurated various passenger amenities through video link. According to the information given by the railways, the fare of private pod is from 1249 to lowcare 2499. If you are going on any kind of short trip or going to visit with kids then this hotel is very good for that. Its pictures have also been shared by the Ministry of Railways on its social media page. According to the information given by IRCTC, this pod, which comes on the first floor of Mumbai Central Terminus, has a total of 48 rooms. The length of these rooms is 7 feet while the width and height are 4 feet. This type of hotel originated in Japan. After this many such pod hotels have been built in Russia, US, UK, Netherlands, Singapore and Malaysia including Japan. However, this is the first hotel of its kind in India so far.

The Pod Hotel has capsule rooms and all air-conditioned rooms. Pod hotels are currently divided into four categories with varying prices and amenities. Including Classic Pods, Exclusive Ladies Pods and Suited Pods, they are priced based on their category.
IRCTC has awarded contract for establishment, operation and management of POD Concept Retiring Rooms for 9 years on open tender basis. The site is on the first floor of the Mumbai Central Railway Station building. It is built in 3000 square feet. The capsule room is a modern and compact version of the already functioning railway rest room or dormitory. Railway retiring rooms are AC or non AC, but all these capsule rooms started in Mumbai are connected to the central AC vent. Her bed is more comfortable than in the retiring room, and each room has a TV.
