On the one hand, the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been claiming to double the income of farmers. meanwhile,
The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has said that instead of increasing, the income of farmers in the four provinces has decreased by 30%. SKM made this claim by quoting the report of a Standing Committee of Parliament.
On Saturday (April 9, 2022), the Front said that the unprecedented hike in the prices of diesel, petrol and fertilizers has exposed the “anti-farmer attitude” of the BJP-led central government. According to the statement of the SKM, which is currently leading several farmers’ organisations, the prices of petrol and diesel are increasing every day after the results of the five state elections (UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur) were declared. The total price hike has gone up to more than Rs 10 per litre, which is a matter of concern.
The SKM claimed, “A Parliamentary Standing Committee has exposed the Centre’s statement of doubling farmers’ income by 2022, revealing that instead of increasing, farmers’ income has decreased by 30 per cent in four states.” It has also been revealed in the report of the committee that in the last three years, the Agriculture Ministry has failed to spend the approved budget and returned Rs 67,929 to the Centre.
According to the statement, “It has also been accepted in the report that the scheme of giving pension to farmers in the name of Kisan Maandhan Yojana has completely failed.” SKM further says, “United Kisan Morcha warned the government It is given that the farmers of the country will not tolerate the conspiracy against them.
The farmers’ organization also raised concerns about the price hike of DAP and NPKS fertilizers. It said that on May 18 last year, IFFCO increased the price of 50 kg DAP fertilizer sack by 55.3 per cent. The statement said, “Recently, the central government once again increased the prices of fertilizers, which is a fraud with the farmers. Even after the subsidy, the price of DAP, which is available at Rs 1200 per bag, was increased to Rs 150, due to which the cost of this bag has gone up to Rs 1350.
