New Delhi. India and China on Friday held the 15th round of high-level military talks to resolve the 22-month-long standoff at some places of conflict in eastern Ladakh. The talks held two months earlier had not made any significant progress in resolving the impasse.
Sources said the Corps-Commander-level talks began at 10 am at Chushul-Moldo ‘Border Point’ on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
It is learned that the Indian side insisted on the early withdrawal of troops to the remaining areas of conflict, including the resolution of the issues at Depsang Bulge and Demchok.
During the talks, the focus was on advancing the process of withdrawing troops in the Hot Springs (Patrolling Point-15) areas. The Indian delegation in the talks was led by Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, the newly appointed Commander of the 14th Corps based in Leh.
The 14th round of talks between India and China was held on 12 January and no significant progress was made in resolving the standoff in the remaining places of confrontation.
The Chinese delegation in the talks was to be led by Major General Yang Lin, commander of the South Xinjiang Military District. According to sources, the talks continued till evening. (agency)
