Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday in the phone tapping case that we are not afraid of going to jail. He objected to the questions asked by the Mumbai Police. Maharashtra’s Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said in the Assembly that he was not afraid to answer questions or face imprisonment.
Significantly, Fadnavis was questioned by the Mumbai Police for two hours on Sunday. Due to this there was a huge uproar in the budget session of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday. Devendra Fadnavis said about the questions, “The first questionnaire was drafted with a view to getting information from a witness. In the second questionnaire, there was an approach to questioning an accused.”
Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, however, denied that former Chief Minister Fadnavis was treated like an accused. The police interrogated Fadnavis only for the purpose of getting information. It is wrong that he was treated as an accused. He was not given any summons.”
On the other hand, Devendra Fadnavis says that the questions that were sent to him before the interrogation were going to be asked from the witnesses, but when the police reached for questioning, questions were asked to the accused. He said that I was asked, ‘You do not think that you have violated the Official Secret Act?’
Regarding the summons, Fadnavis said, “I had received a questionnaire from the Mumbai Police. To this I gave my consent in writing to him and informed him that I would answer those questions. After that I was served a notice.”
Talking to the media, Devendra Fadnavis said, “The incidents which are in the pen drive which I gave, the government itself is conspiring in which I have exposed. The government says that we will investigate this with the police. Will the state police be able to investigate the government itself? Our demand is that this entire matter should be handed over to the CBI.”
