On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, giving a big relief to the general public from inflation, announced to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 respectively. After this cut, the prices of petrol and diesel were reduced by Rs 9, 50 paise and Rs 7 respectively. At the same time, after this decision of the Center, now the Maharashtra government has also cut VAT on petrol.
What will be the new price: It has been informed by the Government of Maharashtra that now the price of petrol has been cut by Rs 2 8 paise per liter and on diesel by Re 1 44 paise per liter. At the same time, after this deduction, petrol in Mumbai will get Rs 109, 27 paise per liter, diesel will be Rs 95, 84 paise per liter. Earlier on Sunday, petrol in Mumbai stood at Rs 111.35 per liter and diesel at Rs 97.28 per liter.
Earlier on Saturday, Sitharaman had said, “We are reducing the central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per liter and that of diesel by Rs 7 per liter.”
Apart from this, he had urged the state governments to make similar cuts. He tweeted, “I appeal to all the state governments, especially those states where the cut was not made last time, to make such a cut this time.”
It is believed that after the appeal of the Finance Minister, the states have started making cuts. Let us tell you that due to these cuts, the general public will definitely get some relief from the impact of inflation. Significantly, the Finance Minister announced a subsidy of Rs 200 on 12 cylinders in a year to the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme in addition to petrol and diesel.
