Secunderabad-based College of Defense Management is doing research on this matter, books can prove to be helpful in modern warfare and administrative work of the army
Indian Army jawans will now be taught Bhagavad Gita and Kautilya’s Arthashastra. Research is also being done for this and it is believed that it can be included in the army curriculum soon. On the call of PM Modi, the Secunderabad-based College of Defense Management is researching this matter. Research work is also being done on ancient Indian texts here. Which can help in modern warfare and administrative tasks of the army. For this the Bhagavad Gita and Kautilya’s Arthashastra have been recommended.
A senior officer posted at the Army Headquarters in Delhi said, “The Bhagavad Gita is a treasure trove of wisdom and military doctrine in the strategy, warfare and morality of life.” The study of the Gita will give army officers and soldiers an indigenous vision for modern warfare. Arthashastra is one of the many wonderful texts of ancient India. Understanding this leads to the development of excellent skills in politics and military strategy. Extensive research work is being done in this regard. Although no further details have been given, the plan is said to be in the works.
Significantly, at a conference of Joint Commanders of the Army in Kevadiya, Gujarat in March, Prime Minister Modi had called for acquisition of military resources and maximum indigenization in the national security system, including the principles of the Army. Two separate sessions on Indigenization of Tradition and Culture in the Army were organized during the 3-day conference. The research recommends setting up of an Indian Cultural Research Center at par with China. For this an Indian Culture Club should be established. So that discussions on relevant topics can be organized along with available research papers on ancient Indian texts.
