In the violence that erupted over Nupur Sharma’s controversial statement on Prophet Mohammad, trains are now on target. Shops have been looted after stones were pelted on a train in West Bengal. At the same time, there has been a demonstration in JNU in support of Mohammad Javed, accused of Prayagraj violence. At the same time, Bangladesh said that the dispute of insulting the Prophet is an internal matter of India, why would Bangladesh interfere on it?
Stone pelting on train in Bengal- Protesters pelted stones at Bethuadahari railway station in Nadia district of West Bengal on Sunday and damaged a local train. Train services on that route have been suspended following the incident. According to the information received, hundreds of people blocked National Highway-34 on Sunday in protest against Nupur Sharma. When the police lathi-charged the crowd, some people reached Bethuadahari railway station and started pelting stones at a train parked there.
As soon as the security forces reached the railway station, the miscreants fled towards Bethuadahari Hospital. There too some shops were vandalized. The police then dispersed the miscreants by lathi-charge. Eklavya Chakraborty, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway said- “An uncontrolled mob of one thousand people pelted stones on the train. Some people have been injured. Right now no trains are running there, we are waiting for the permission of the state government”.
Demonstration in JNU – A protest was taken out in support of Afreen Fatima, daughter of Mohammad Javed in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University. The student union is protesting against the ‘bulldozer’ action taken against Fatima’s father. According to Javed’s daughter, the house that was demolished was gifted to her mother by her maternal grandfather. He claimed that neither the land nor the house was built by his father.
Bangladesh’s response- Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hassan Mahmood has said that the dispute over the insult of the Prophet is an internal matter of India. The Government of Bangladesh need not answer this. He said- “First of all, this is an external issue for Bangladesh. This issue is of India, not of Bangladesh. We don’t need to say anything.”
At the same time, Section 144 has been imposed in Ghaziabad, UP. According to the information received, in order to maintain law and order situation, Section 144 of CrPC has been implemented in Ghaziabad district till August 10.
