Gujarat’s Patidar leader Hardik Patel joined BJP in Gandhinagar on Thursday. Senior party leader CR Patil got him the membership. Hardik Patel himself has given this information by tweeting. He wrote that with the feelings of national interest, state interest, public interest and social interest, I am going to start a new chapter from today. I will work as a small soldier in the work of serving the nation under the leadership of the successful Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Bhai Modi. Earlier, on May 18, Hardik Patel had resigned alleging neglect in the Congress party. In Gujarat, posters written in the name of Hardik Patel, “Nationalist” have been put up.
Hardik Patel came into the limelight in 2015 after the agitation demanding reservation for the Patidar community. Under his leadership, the people of Patidar community had a vigorous agitation at GMDC Ground in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was being told that more than five lakh people had gathered in the rally. During this time there were incidents of sabotage along with huge protests. After this the movement spread all over the state. 14 youths also lost their lives in the violence. A case of sedition was registered against Hardik Patel and other protesters in the case. Then Hardik Patel had reportedly even called Amit Shah as General Dyer.
After this, starting his political innings for the first time in 2019, he joined the Congress on the advice of Rahul Gandhi and the very next year he was given the post of working president of Gujarat Congress. He was the youngest leader in the party to get the post of working president.
However, later he began to consider himself neglected in the party. He has publicly expressed many times inside and outside the party that despite being the number two leader in the party, he is not being included in important meetings and decisions. It was expected that soon he would make some big decision about himself. He finally left the Congress party on 18 May.
Recently, in an interview given to Sumit Awasthi of ABP news channel, he had indicated that he would now join the BJP. In this interview, after being asked repeatedly, he only said that very soon he will take a good decision. And today, on Thursday, June 2, he took that decision.
