In the meeting of Mamta Banerjee called in the Constitution Club regarding the presidential election, there was a deep brainstorming about the possible candidate today. The meeting of the opposition parties lasted for about two hours. In the meeting, Mamata Banerjee proposed the names of Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopal Gandhi and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah as presidential candidates.
Sources said that the opposition camp was first keen to field Sharad Pawar. But seeing doubts over the victory, Pawar withdrew himself from the race. After that discussion on other names started. The opposition parties put forth their opinion one by one. Later Mamta suggested two names. After this, Sharad Pawar also said that we are conducting an opinion poll on the name.
Mamta Banerjee said that all the opposition parties have decided that there will be only one candidate so that their candidate can be put up firmly against the Modi government. At the same time, the repressive policies of the central government can be curbed.

Leaders of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), CPIML, RSP, Shiv Sena, NCP, RJD, SP, National Conference, PDP, JD(S), DMK, RLD, IUML and JMM reached the Constitution Club.
