In Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, the protest against the controversial remarks made by Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammad turned violent. After the Friday prayers, the protesting crowd turned violent on seeing it. The mob resorted to arson and stone pelting after which the police had to open fire to bring the situation under control. So far two people have died in this violence. At the same time, the local administration has imposed curfew in the violence-hit area.
Miscreants torched several vehicles and pelted stones at security forces in Ranchi in protest against the controversial remarks made about Prophet Muhammad. The police fired in the air to disperse the stone-pelting mob. Ranchi SSP Surendra Jha, another officer and several policemen were injured in stone pelting by miscreants. Following this, the district administration later imposed prohibitory orders in the Main Road area.
Speaking to The Indian Express, SP Ranchi (Rural) Naushad Alam said, “12 people admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences have suffered injuries due to stone pelting and pellets.” Two of the injured, who were brought to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences after the violence in Ranchi, died during treatment, RIMS officials have informed.
According to the information given by Jharkhand Police, 11 policemen and 12 protesters have been injured in this incident of violence. He is being treated in various hospitals. At present the situation is under control and forces are deployed in the violence-hit area.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed concern over the incident of violence and appealed to the people to maintain peace. CM Hemant Soren said that this incident of violence is very worrying but he appeals to the people to maintain peace. He said that action would be ensured against those who are involved in the violence.

Violent demonstrations in many cities: Violent demonstrations took place in many cities of the country after Friday prayers in protest against Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Mohammad. Protests against the suspended BJP leader’s remarks were held in Ranchi, Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Mumbai and Delhi. In Prayagraj, the crowd turned violent on sight and started pelting stones at the policemen, a large number of children of 10-12 years were involved in stone pelters.
