Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot had arrived on Saturday, July 16 to participate in the National Convention of the National Legal Services Authority. During this, he raised the issue of expensive fees of lawyers of Supreme Court and High Court. He made several scathing remarks on issues related to the judiciary. He objected to how he was targeted for the comments of Supreme Court judges in the Nupur Sharma case.
He said this in the presence of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and other senior judges.
Targeting the Center: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said before the CJI that there is an atmosphere of tension in the country. For the last three months, I have been appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But if he keeps from listening to us, then only you (CJI) can say something. Gehlot said that the thinking of bureaucracy and judiciary after his retirement is a serious matter for the country.
Gehlot said that in the past four Supreme Court judges had expressed concern about democracy in the country. Then one of them Judge Gogoi became the Chief Justice. At the same time, after retiring, Gogoi also became the Member of Parliament. Apart from this, there was no change in the subject about which he raised questions, even after he himself became the CJI.
He said that the situation in the country is getting worse. Efforts are being made to break the democratically elected government through horse trading. Our government in Rajasthan was saved somehow. Otherwise some other CM would have stood here. Let us inform that CM Gehlot was addressing the 18th All India Conference of State Legal Services Authorities organized by NALSA in Jaipur. It was inaugurated by Chief Justice NV Ramana.
Gehlot said on the fees of lawyers: CM Ashok Gehlot said that it has become common practice that the more expensive the lawyer, the more impressed the judge will be. It is a matter of great concern that the judge should decide by looking at the face of the lawyer.
What did he say in the Nupur Sharma case: Chief Minister Gehlot said, recently, Justice Pardiwala and Justice Suryakant commented on the Nupur Sharma case. It is our duty to respect the judiciary. But 116 people were raised (against the judges). In which retired judges of the High Court and Supreme Court, bureaucrats and high officials were included. Don’t know who they were? How these people were managed and who managed and made it an issue in the country.
Let us tell you that a bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Surya Kant in the Supreme Court had on July 1 reprimanded the comments of Nupur Sharma, suspended from the BJP. The bench had said that her (Nupur’s) “uncontrolled tongue” had set the entire country on fire.
