The list of 10 Rajya Sabha candidates was released by the Congress party on Sunday. Since then, there has been a ruckus in the Congress party. Unhappy with ticket distribution, big party leaders say that the party has broken the announcements made in Udaipur Chintan Shivir within two weeks.
The Congress has fielded 10 candidates from seven states for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. It has given place to Gandhi family’s considered P Chidambaram and Jairam Ramesh and has categorically denied tickets to G-23 members such as Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, who are considered vocal against the Gandhi family.
Regarding the distribution of tickets on behalf of the party, it is being argued that a limited number of leaders can be sent to the Rajya Sabha. It is not possible to keep everyone happy. At the same time, the leaders who are not happy with the distribution of tickets say that the party has violated the announcement made in Udaipur.
One of the big announcements made at Udaipur Chintan Shivir was that the party had decided to give ‘one family one ticket’. But if any other member of the family wants the ticket, then he should be politically active and have at least five years experience of working in the organization. Congress leaders allege that this condition was broken by the party because P Chidambaram (whose son Karti Chidambaram is a Lok Sabha MP) and Pramod Tiwari (whose daughter Aradhana Mishra is an MLA from Uttar Pradesh) were given tickets.
Questioning the distribution of tickets, the Congress leader said that “Ajay Maken who is from Delhi has been given ticket from Haryana and Randeep Surjewala who is from Haryana has been given ticket from Rajasthan. Mukul Wasnik who is from Maharashtra has been given ticket from Rajasthan and Imran Pratapgadhi who is from Uttar Pradesh has been given ticket from Maharashtra while he has no connection with Maharashtra. This list is a joke.”
