Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra are becoming very interesting this time. In Maharashtra, 6 Rajya Sabha seats are vacant and 7 candidates are in the fray. There is bound to be a tough fight for the sixth seat. In such a situation, the importance of small parties also seems to be increasing very much. The situation is that the AIMIM, which has two seats in the assembly, has also started showing its attitude to the MVA government. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi bluntly said that if MVA wants support, then contact us.
Elections are being held for six Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena has fielded its two candidates Sanjay Raut and Sanjay Pawar. BJP has bet on three candidates Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik. Sharad Pawar’s NCP has fielded Praful Patel and Congress has fielded Imran Pratapgarhi. BJP has enough votes to win two seats while Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress are in a position to win one seat each.
According to the numerical strength of the assembly, Owaisi is becoming important in the equation that seems to be being formed. Owaisi has two members in the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Voting for the Rajya Sabha elections is scheduled for June 10. No party is ready to accept defeat on any front in the kind of head-footing going on between BJP and Shiv Sena. But in the midst of all this, the fear of horse-trading is also haunting Shiv Sena. The situation is that as a precaution, the MVA has sent all the MLAs to a secret place.
Owaisi said that no leader from MVA has contacted us or our MLAs from Maharashtra. If they need our support then they should contact us. We will take our decision within a day or two as to who to support, he said. On the other hand, Owaisi’s MP from Aurangabad Imtiaz Jaleel said that he has some issues related to the assembly constituencies which are with the party. He said that we will take these issues with the government. If MVA wants to defeat BJP then it should openly seek AIMIM’s support.
