There has been an uproar over the advertisement of a deodorant. This ad is being linked to rape. After the controversies, the government has issued an order banning this advertisement. At the same time, Swati Maliwal, chairman of the Delhi Commission for Women, has demanded registration of an FIR against the company. For this, he has also written a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
What’s the matter – There is a controversy regarding two advertisements of perfume named Shot. It is being said about these advertisements that they are promoting rape. There are four boys and one girl in the advertisement. The dialogue is such that on hearing which the girl looks scared for fear of something untoward, later dialogues reveal that the boys are not talking about the girl but about the deodorant. Now there is an uproar on social media regarding this advertisement. Calling it disgusting, people are demanding action against the company.
What Swati Maliwal said- Swati Maliwal, one of those who raised her voice against this advertisement, said that it is promoting rape. He has written a letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister demanding action against it. There has also been a demand to register a case against the company. He also said that it should also be ensured that such “dirty” advertisements promoting rape culture are never made again. A strong system should be made for this.
Government action- After controversies and complaints, the Central Government has ordered to remove this advertisement. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered the suspension of the controversial advertisement. Along with this, investigation is also being done regarding this matter. The ministry has also ordered the removal of this ad from Twitter and YouTube.
The ministry said the advertisement violates Rule 3(1)(b)(ii) of the Information Technology (Intermediate Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules, 2021.
