On the second day of Congress’s Chintan Shivir in Udaipur, Rajasthan, former Union Minister P Chidambaram attacked the policies of the Modi government. He said in a press conference that the inflation in the country is increasing continuously, it has increased to unacceptable levels. This is happening because of wrong policies of the government.
Chidambaram said, “Slow rate of growth in the last 8 years has been the hallmark of the present government, and the pace of recovery in the economy has been very slow and stalled after the pandemic.” Chidambaram is the head of a panel on the economy set up by Congress President Sonia Gandhi to lead the discussion at a three-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
He said that in view of the global and domestic developments, it has become necessary to consider the re-framing of economic policies. The Congress leader said the consequences of the GST laws brought by the Modi government in 2017 and implemented incorrectly are now in front of everyone. He also called for a comprehensive review of the Centre-State financial relations.
Said- There is no situation like Sri Lanka: The former Finance Minister said that the way the financial condition of the states is today, it has never been so delicate before. However, at the same time he also said that there is no fear of Sri Lanka-like situation in India. Chidambaram said that despite the repressive policies of the Modi government, the democratic process continues here. We will be able to meet the economic challenges.
What to say on Gyanvapi: On Gyanvapi Masjid case, P Chidambaram said that status quo should be maintained in places of worship across the country. Apart from this, the Congress leader expressed grief over the death of 27 people in a building fire in Delhi’s Mundka. He said that the entire Congress party expresses its condolences to the victims.
Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Services, informed about this incident in Delhi, “We found 27 bodies in the night, parts of some dead bodies have been found in the morning, which seems that there will be 2-3 more bodies. The total death toll could be 29-30.”
