SP’s veteran leader Azam Khan had reached an election rally on Saturday regarding the by-election to Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. Let us inform that on May 20, Azam Khan came out of Sitapur Jail in UP on bail after nearly two years. In such a situation, now they are seeking votes for the candidates of the party. He targeted the Yogi government while addressing an election meeting for SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav in Azamgarh.
He said that he is out on bail now, but has not been acquitted. Azam Khan said that hundreds of cases have been registered against me. In which there is a case of chicken theft, not theft of chicken. The sections against me are not of theft but of dacoity. He said that our opposition took us very lightly.
Azam said in his address that if I had to get a case written, at least Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar would have been written off for theft. But they brought me cases of theft of books and theft of furniture.
Let us inform that apart from Azamgarh, Azam Khan is also seeking votes for SP candidate Asim Raja in the by-elections being held on Rampur Lok Sabha seat these days. In election rallies, Azam Khan narrates the pain of 27 months he spent in jail.
Significantly, for the Rampur Lok Sabha by-election on June 23, the BJP is dependent on the policies and development works of the Yogi Adityanath government. But in this stronghold of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, the road is not considered easy for the BJP. Actually Azam Khan’s reputation is at stake on this seat. On one hand, SP has given ticket to Azam Khan’s close aide Asim Raja, while on the other hand, BJP has nominated Ghanshyam Lodhi, who was once close to Azam Khan, as its candidate.
Significantly, in Rampur, Muslims are around 8.5 lakh, Hindus 8.3 lakh (Dalit 1.5 lakh, OBC groups like Lodis 1.25 lakh, Kurmi 75,000, Saini 80,000, Pal community 38,000 and Yadav 45,000 and upper castes). At the same time, in the last Lok Sabha elections (2019), Azam Khan got 52.71 percent, his rival and BJP’s Jaya Prada got 42.34 percent votes.
