The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a major decision on Tuesday related to engineering courses. AICTE has decided that Mathematics in class 12th is no longer mandatory for applying for one-third of engineering courses including architecture, bio-technology and fashion technology. Mathematics has been made optional for 10 out of 29 diploma/undergraduate courses.
Along with this, the Education Council has made Chemistry as an optional subject for admission to Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering for 2022-2023. That is, the students can choose if they want to choose it, it will be up to the students.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in its 2021-22 guidelines had made Mathematics and Physics optional for all engineering courses, which has drawn criticism. This year it has tried to address concerns by limiting courses that do not require math, chemistry or physics.
