Sending a letter to the captain of the women’s and men’s team, wished for the Olympics
Mumbai, July 14 (IANS)| Former Indian hockey player Dhanraj Pillay is hopeful that the Indian men’s hockey team led by Manpreet Singh will end its 41-year Olympic medal winning drought. Pillay, who has been a part of four Olympics for India, said, “I am confident that the team will end the drought this time. They have done a lot better in the last five years. Fitness is their strong side. In our times, there was no such support system. As it is now. The team did well in the Champions Trophy in 2016 and 2018 and the World League finals in 2015 and 2017.
Pillay has sent a personal letter to Manpreet and the women’s team captain Rani, wishing both the teams the best. “Since I was also in Bangalore, I would have liked to meet him in person but due to protocol, I could not do so. I have sent him a letter to convey my best wishes,” he said. “All I want to say to the men’s and women’s teams is don’t think about the podium finish. Just think about each match and just think about playing as a team until the last day of the tournament,” Pillay said.
