Indian Railway Alert: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday said that the 2021 order of the Maharashtra government allowing only those people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel in local trains is “illegal”. The court also said that this order clearly affects the fundamental rights of citizens. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice MS Karnik observed that the three orders, signed under the signatures of the then Chief Secretary to the government, Sitaram Kunte, were markedly different from the procedure laid down under the Disaster Management Rules. Government’s counsel Anil Antoorkar informed the court that all the three pending orders have been withdrawn. He said that in the spirit of the observations made by the High Court, all the three orders are withdrawn. The State Executive Committee will meet on February 25, after which fresh instructions will be issued.
