An Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv, Ukraine today. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed this on Twitter. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, the ministry is in touch with his family. We express our deepest condolences to the family. Bagchi pointed out that the Foreign Secretary is calling on the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for an immediate safe passage for Indian citizens who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar actions are being taken by our ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine. Although the name of the student has not yet been disclosed by the Ministry of External Affairs, but according to TV channels, the name of the student is being told as Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar. He was a resident of Haveri district of Karnataka. He was a student of medicine at Kharkiv National Medical University. According to initial reports, Shekharappa was standing in a queue to buy food at a supermarket in Kharkiv when the Russian shelling began. Then he came under the shelling.
