The index of eight core industries of the country has increased by 18.1 percent (provisional) in the same month this year as compared to the month of May last year. In this month of May, this index has been at 148.1 point. This rise in the index is due to higher growth in production of cement, coal, fertilizer power.

In the month of May this year compared to last year, coal industry has grown by 25.1 percent while fertilizer industry has grown by 22.8 percent. At the same time, the cement industry has also grown by 26.3 percent. The power sector has also seen a growth of 22 percent in the month of May this year as compared to last year.
