The Bhagwant Mann government has decided to increase the per liter cess on petrol and diesel. A cess of 90 paise has been imposed on petrol and diesel. VAT was removed in the year 2021

This decision was taken in the year 2021 by the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi, but now it has been decided to impose cess in view of paucity of funds. After the removal of VAT in 2021, the prices of petrol and diesel were reduced from Rs 10 to Rs 5. Petrol was cheaper by Rs 10, while diesel was cheaper by Rs 5.
