Israel attacked in Rafah
Deir el-Balah: Israel has attacked the Gaza city of Rafah in which at least 16 Palestinians have died. This information has been given by the ‘Palestinian Civil Defense’ and ‘Palestinian Red Crescent’ involved in humanitarian work. Locals said that fighting has intensified in the southern Gaza city. 1 million people have fled from Rafah since the start of the Israeli attack in May, most of whom have already been displaced due to the war between Israel and Hamas. These people are taking refuge in camps built in war-torn areas.
America warned
The US and Israel’s other allies have warned against a full-blown attack on Rafah. US President Joe Biden’s administration has said that doing so would be crossing the line. The International Court of Justice on Friday asked Israel to stop the attack on Rafah. However, it has no power to enforce its order. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to move forward, saying that his military personnel will go to Rafah to destroy Hamas and free the hostages taken after the October 7 attack. The new attack has been carried out in the same area where an alleged Hamas compound was targeted on Sunday night.
45 people died
According to local health officials, earlier, at least 45 people were killed in an Israeli attack that set a camp for displaced Palestinians on fire. Anger was seen across the world over this. Netanyahu said that a ‘tragic accident’ took place on Sunday, while the army said that it was investigating the matter. According to the Palestinian Civil Defense and the Palestinian Red Crescent, a total of 16 people were killed in the Tel al-Sultan area of northwest Rafah in attacks carried out at night. Israel says that it is carrying out a limited operation in eastern Rafah near the Gaza-Egypt border. But local residents said that there was heavy bombing in the western parts of Rafah overnight.
‘It was a scary night’
“It was a terrifying night,” said Abdel Rahman Abu Ismail, a Gaza City resident who has been sheltering in Tel al-Sultan since December. He said explosions could be heard from night until morning, as warplanes and drones hovered over the area. Gaza’s health ministry said two medical centers in Tel al-Sultan had to be closed because of heavy bombardment nearby. Medical Aid for Palestinians said the Tel al-Sultan medical center and the Indonesian field hospital were closed, with health workers, patients and displaced people trapped inside. (AP)
