An Army Major was killed after he slipped off a steep cliff during an anti-infiltration operation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Major Raghunath Ahlawat (34), a resident of Delhi, was leading his team for an anti-infiltration operation based on a credible intelligence input in the Uri area on Thursday.
“While scouting the route through a steep cliff, he slipped and fell into a 60-metre deep gorge due to bad weather. He died on the way to the nearest military hospital. Major Ahlawat joined the Army in 2012,” the official said. He was a resident of Dwarka area of New Delhi. His family consists of his wife and parents.”
The Army on Friday paid tribute to the late Major. Defense spokesman Col. Amaron Mousavi said, “The body of the late Major Raghunath Ahlawat was taken to his native place for last rites. The Army stands with the bereaved family in this hour of grief and is committed to their dignity and well-being.” ”
