The MLAs will get a maximum salary hike of 50 per cent, while the chief minister and ministers will get around 25 per cent and 31 per cent hike, respectively. The approval was given during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren. Confirming the decision, Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said, “The Cabinet has approved the hike in salaries, allowances and other perks of MLAs, ministers, speaker, leader of opposition, chief minister and assembly officials.”
Whose salary increased by how much
The basic salary of the Chief Minister has been increased from Rs 80,000 per month to Rs 1 lakh, while the salary of ministers has been increased from Rs 65,000 to Rs 85,000 and MLAs from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month. Decision taken after the recommendations of the committee
The decision was taken following the recommendations of a five-member committee constituted to review the salaries and allowances of the chief minister, ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, chief whip and whip. The panel submitted its report in December last year, recommending a 25 per cent pay hike for the chief minister and about 31 per cent for other ministers. Besides, another committee in August last year proposed to increase the basic salary of MLAs from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per month and suggested a hike in other allowances for MLAs.
