Ranchi. In Jharkhand, under the three-tier Panchayati Raj system, the first phase of polling will be conducted on May 14. On Friday, polling parties were sent from the district headquarters to the polling stations. The state election has claimed that all the preparations have been made for voting in a free and fair environment.
In the first phase, voting will be held in 1127 gram panchayats of 72 blocks of 21 districts of the state. In view of this, the election campaign had ended on Thursday itself. However, door to door public relations of the candidates continued on Friday.
According to the information given by the State Election Commission, votes will be cast on May 14 from 7 am to 3 pm. More than 52 lakh voters will cast their votes in the first phase. Voters will exercise their franchise through ballot paper at 14079 polling stations in 21 districts.
In the first phase, 6231 candidates have been elected unopposed. Out of these, maximum 6085 people have been elected as ward members. Apart from these, 4 candidates of Mukhiya, 140 of Panchayat Samiti and two candidates of Zilla Parishad have been declared elected unopposed. No one has filed nomination on 707 seats. In this case these seats will remain vacant. These include 691 seats for Gram Panchayat member, 6 for Mukhiya, 9 for Panchayat Samiti member and one seat for Zilla Parishad member.
