Five laborers died of suffocation at a fish processing unit in Mangaluru, Karnataka. Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar gave this information on Monday. The five workers killed in this accident were from West Bengal. N Shashi Kumar said the incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday evening at Sri Ulka LLP, a fish processing unit in Mangaluru Special Economic Zone.
The Commissioner of Police said, “One of the workers fell inside the garbage collection tank and fell unconscious inside it. Seven other laborers entered the tank to save him and they also fell unconscious. They were shifted to AJ Hospital. Gaya, where three died last night. Two other laborers died in the ICU this morning.”
All the laborers killed are residents of Bengal.
The Commissioner of Police said that all the killed laborers are residents of West Bengal and their age is said to be between 20 and 22 years. N Shashi Kumar said, “We have registered a case against the manager and supervisor under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Production manager Ruby Joseph, field manager Kuber Gade and supervisors Mohammad Anwar and Farooq have been taken into custody. have been taken and they are being questioned.”
