Bangalore. The Karnataka Police on Saturday shot an acid attacker in the leg while he was trying to escape. According to police sources, the absconding acid attacker Nagesh had managed to escape from the clutches of the police since April 28. The firing took place when the police was bringing him back to Karnataka from Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu.
The police allegedly shot Nagesh in the right leg. He has been admitted to a hospital after being shot.
Police said the accused attacked police constable Mahadevaiah while the latter caught him while trying to escape. Nagesh was arrested by Karnataka Police from Tiruvannamalai on Friday. Police had formed 10 special teams to nab the accused. After 16 days, Kamakshipalya police caught the accused.
The police was working on clues that the accused was a devotee and was visiting pilgrimage sites.
Police sources said that even after searching all the religious places, the police could not find any clue as the accused managed to disguise as a religious monk in an ‘ashram’.
The accused was allegedly wearing saffron clothes and was pretending to be a spiritual person.
The police also entered the ashram posing as devotees and managed to find clues about Nagesh and finally caught him. The incident happened on April 28.
A girl was waiting for an autorickshaw near her workplace in Sunakadkatte, Bengaluru when the attacker Nagesh threw acid on her. The girl got 35% burns. Police said that the accused studied in the same school with the victim.
When the girl refused, the accused attacked her. Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar met the victim at the hospital and assured her of free treatment. He also announced that the state government would provide him a job after his recovery.
