Bangalore. Arrests are going on in the case of violence in Hubli, Karnataka. Police has arrested another leader of Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen AIMIM in this case. The name of the arrested person is Nazir Ahmed Honwal. He is also a councilor of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. Earlier, the police had arrested Irfan, husband of Owaisi’s party councilor Hussain B. Nalwatwad, for pelting stones at Old Hubli police station and Hanuman temple.
According to Hubli district police, on the night of April 16, an angry mob stormed the Old Hubli police station and the adjacent Hanuman temple over a social media post. The mob created a ruckus and an inspector and several policemen were injured in stone pelting. The police had registered 12 FIRs in the matter till April 22. So far, 134 accused involved in the incident have been arrested by the police.
According to the police, Hanuman Jayanti was also on April 16. Everything was fine till this evening. Suddenly a crowd started gathering in front of the police station and after the sloganeering, tremendous stone pelting started. When the crowd did not come under control, the police resorted to lathi-charge. After this the violence started increasing. On this the police had to fire tear gas shells. The people in the crowd were demanding action against the person who posted an objectionable WhatsApp status. According to the police, more accused will be arrested in the coming days.
