Elections to the 25 seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council were held on 10 December. A total of 90 candidates tried their luck in the Legislative Council elections. In this, 20-20 candidates of BJP and Congress were in the fray.
This election was nothing special for the local party JDS. The party had fielded a total of 6 candidates in the election, but could manage to win only one of them.
Shock to the parties in your stronghold
The BJP may have won the maximum number of seats in the election results, but it has suffered losses in its own stronghold. Especially in CM Bommai’s home district, good news has not come for the BJP. BJP candidates have suffered a crushing defeat in Dharwad and Belagavi, considered a stronghold of the party.
It is not that only BJP’s stronghold has been breached but the same has happened with JDS as well. JDS has also suffered a setback in the strong middle zone.
This is the math of seats
Elections were held for a total of 25 seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council. To occupy power, it was necessary to get 12 seats.
However, the BJP missed out on just one seat. It has strengthened its position in the Upper House, but has not been able to get a majority. After winning 11 seats, the BJP now has 37 members in the 75-member Karnataka Legislative Council.
