Bagalkot. In Karnataka’s Bagalkot town, Kerur witnessed an orgy of communal violence on Wednesday after a debate over molestation between two groups. The furious mob pelted stones, ransacked and arson. Three people are reported to have been injured in the violence. According to the police, after an argument between the two sides, people started gathering from both the sides and then the violence started. There was arson in many places. Gumts and stalls were broken by the mob. Schools and colleges in Kerur have been declared a holiday today as a precaution. Police and RAF have been deployed extensively.

Bagalkot DM Sunil Kumar told the media that Section 144 has been imposed in the town till 8 am tomorrow i.e. July 8. So far 10 people have been detained in connection with the violence. He said that soon after the argument a group of some people entered the market and started vandalizing there. They started arson after local people protested. According to the police, an argument broke out between the two sides when they opposed the eve-teasing of women. After which there was an uproar.

This time also the police is saying that strict action will be taken against the rioters in Kerur.
