Thiruvananthapuram. The Modi government at the centre has offered Rs 200 crore to Kerala to deal with waterlogging. BJP’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted this on Sunday. The central government had made this offer under the urban development programme. Recently, waterlogging had occurred in Thiruvananthapuram during pre-monsoon rains.
Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics and Technology and BJP’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar wrote on a social media ‘x’ that he has urged the Left government of Kerala to submit the proposal for Thiruvananthapuram to the Center by the end of this month. He wrote, ‘In another sign of extending a helping hand to Kerala, PM Narendra Modi’s government has offered assistance for a project worth ₹ 200 crore under the Urban Flood Mitigation Program for Thiruvananthapuram.’
Chandrasekhar further wrote, ‘The Pinarayi Vijayan government should now act by submitting a proposal for Thiruvananthapuram. The deadline for this proposal is by the end of May 24.’ Chandrasekhar said that the aim of this program is to solve the problem of floods caused by heavy rains, ‘which wreaks havoc on the people of Thiruvananthapuram.’
It is worth noting that last Thursday, pre-monsoon rains in Kerala caused waterlogging in major cities including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Thrissur. The IMD had issued a red alert for Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. Earlier, an orange alert was issued for both these places. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts of the state.
