Alappuzha. Congress and Muslims protested against the appointment of Sriram Venkataraman as Collector in Alappuzha, Kerala. This was informed through social media. The matter is from last Saturday. This protest was called by Congress and several Muslim organizations. All of them were protesting against the appointment of Sriram, an accused in the death of a journalist named KM Bashir. Sunni Yuvajan Sangham and Sunni Students Federation also participated in this protest along with Congress leaders. The Kerala Muslim Jamaat had originally decided to protest. The protesters wanted the appointment of Sriram Venkataraman from Alappuzha to be cancelled.
In the video of this case that has come on social media, a crowd of Muslims is seen shouting slogans. CM Pinarayi Vijayan has justified the appointment of Sriram Venkataraman. Whereas, all party leaders including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal have condemned the Kerala government’s decision to appoint Venkataraman as the Collector of Alappuzha. Venugopal said that the collector should be the one to stand with the common people. He said that making Venkataraman a collector, surrounded by serious allegations, is wrong.
In Allepy Kerala ystrday, Muslims opposing the new Brahmin IAS collector, took out a procession,

Venugopal said that the government should have appointed such an officer in Alappuzha, who can understand the problems of the poor. Instead, the post was given to an accused in the death of an innocent person, he said. The Kerala Union of Working Journalists has also raised its voice against this decision of the Vijayan government. Earlier Venkataraman was the MD of Kerala Medical Services Corporation. He was accused in the case of journalist Basheer’s death in Thiruvananthapuram on 3 August 2019. Bashir used to work in ‘Siraj’ newspaper at that time.
