New Delhi. Trinamool Congress TMC has appointed cricketer and former MP Kirti Azad as the party’s Goa state president.
Giving this information on Wednesday, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that Kirti Azad has been appointed as the state in-charge of the Goa unit by TMC with immediate effect. “Happy to appoint former Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad as the State President of Goa with immediate effect under the guidance and inspiration of party President Mamata Banerjee,” he tweeted. We wish them the very best for all their future endeavours.
In fact, recently, Goa TMC chief Kiran Kandolkar’s wife Kavita had resigned on Monday. He had recently contested the elections on a TMC ticket. It was only after this that the TMC announced the immediate reconstitution of the Goa State Committee.
Kirti Azad is the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Bhagwat Jha. Bhagwat Jha became the Chief Minister of Bihar from the Congress Party. Although Kirti Azad started his political career with BJP. But later Kitty had joined the Azadi Congress Party, after which he had announced to join TMC in November last year.
It is noteworthy that in Goa, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC contested the elections in alliance with MGP and in which TMC was badly defeated. The BJP returned to power with the support of two MGP MLAs and three independents, winning 20 seats in the 40-member assembly.
