death of ebrahim raisi
Dubai: Iran has completed preparations to bury late President Ibrahim Raisi at the most famous site of Shia Muslims in the country. Raisi died in a helicopter crash on Sunday. President Raisi will be laid to rest at Imam Reza Dargah in Mashhad. Marches were held in much of Iran after Raisi was killed in the crash. The country’s foreign minister and six other people were also killed in the accident. However, his funeral was not attended by as much crowd as the funeral that took place after Revolutionary Guard General Qasim Sulemani was killed in the American drone attack in Baghdad in 2020. People’s feelings about Raees could be a possible indication of the low turnout at the funeral.
Raisi government has been strict
The Raisi government had taken strict action during the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, due to which people were angry. Amini was detained for allegedly not wearing the hijab, which is mandatory for women in Iran. There was no mention of the actions taken during that period in state television and newspaper coverage. Not only this, Raisi’s involvement in the mass murder of about five thousand people at the end of the Iran-Iraq war was also never discussed. These could be particles whose impact has been seen.
People have been warned
It is worth noting that the authorities have warned people against using any kind of public signs to express happiness over Raisi’s death. Heavy security forces have been deployed in Tehran. Thousands of people dressed in black were seen on Thursday morning on the main road of Raisi’s hometown Birjand city in Iran’s South Khorasan province bordering Afghanistan. His coffin was placed in a vehicle on the road and mourners were coming forward to touch the coffin, paying tribute. Raisi will be buried in Imam Reza Dargah, where the eighth Imam of the Shias was buried. This area has been a religious place for Shia Muslims for a long time. (Language)
