Laborers will now get 12 digit unique number by the Ministry of Labor, know what will be the benefits

Universal Account Number (UAN) will soon be issued to about 38 crore laborers of the unorganized sector by the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment. With this initiative of the Ministry, the portability of many such welfare schemes for the workers will be done, as well as many beneficial schemes will be benefited.

According to the information received from the sources, when lakhs of laborers started returning home together at the time of Corona, the laborers had to face many difficulties. In view of the difficulties faced by the laborers on their sudden return home, the need for creating a national database for the workers of the unorganized sector was emphasized. After this, the Center was asked by the Sopurim Court last July to start it at the earliest, so that by registering all the migrant workers, they can be given the benefits of all welfare schemes to the laborers as soon as possible.

Earlier on May 24, the process of registration of laborers was termed by the Center as too slow by the apex court. Apart from this, instructions were also given to provide dry ration to the migrant laborers stranded due to the pandemic across the country and to operate public kitchens. During this, the top court had also referred to its order dated August 21, 2018, in which it had directed the states and union territories to provide a module for registration of workers in the unorganized sector.
