Patna. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav described the imposition of 50 percent tariff on India by US President Donald Trump. He said that now the time has come to emphasize the sovereignty of our trade policy.

Leader of Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said that the US imposing 50 percent tariff on India is a specific business bullying, making the weapon of powerful sovereign nations. It is disappointing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal have not strongly opposed it.

He opposed Donald Trump’s decision, saying that India’s silence on Trump’s claims of ‘Trade for Ceasefire’ was a mistake. Now the time has come to emphasize the sovereignty of our trade policy and stand firm against economic pressure. India cannot change its policy priorities under pressure.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered an additional 25 percent tariff on imports from India. The reason behind this decision of Trump is India to buy oil from Russia.

On the US tariff, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that the US has targeted India’s oil imports from Russia in recent times. We have already clarified our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on the factor and the energy of 1.4 billion people of India is done for the overall purpose to ensure security.

He said that it is extremely unfortunate that the US has opted India to impose additional fees for those tasks which many other countries are also doing in their national interest. We repeat that these tasks are inappropriate, unjust and indiscriminate. India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.
