Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The election bugle has sounded in the country. Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases. Only a few hours are left for the first phase of elections. Whereas, if we talk about Munger Lok Sabha seat among the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar, it is a high profile seat. Voting will be held here in the fourth phase on May 13. Janata Dal (United) has once again expressed confidence in Rajeev Ranjan alias Lalan Singh from Munger. Lalan Singh has been JDU President. Whereas, RJD has made Anita Devi Mahato its candidate from here. Before 2019, Lalan Singh had won the election from Munger for the first time in 2009.
What were the results of the last elections?
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Lalan Singh defeated Neelam Devi of Congress. In the 2019 elections, Rajiv Ranjan Singh got 528,762 votes, while Congress’s Neelam Devi got 360,825 votes. Independent candidate Amarjeet Patel stood third with 18,646 votes. There were 19 candidates in the electoral fray in this election.
Lalan Singh VS Anita Devi Mahato
From Munger, RJD has given ticket to Anita Devi, wife of gangster Ashok Mahato. Anita Devi will contest elections for the first time. At the same time, in front of him will be veteran leader of Bihar Lalan Singh, who has more than a decade of experience in politics. Lalan Singh has won the election from Munger seat twice in 2009 and 2019.
Election history of Munger seat
The first elections in Munger Lok Sabha constituency were held in 1952. In the 1952 elections, Munger was divided among 4 Lok Sabha seats. From here, candidates MPs Mathura Prasad Mishra, Suresh Chandra Mishra, Banarasi PD Sinha and Nayan Tara won the elections. All four were Congress candidates. In the 1957 elections, two MPs won the elections, but in the 1967 elections, all were merged into one and Munger Lok Sabha seat became one. In 1971 election, Devnandan Prasad Yadav of Congress, in 1977 election, Shrikrishna Singh of Janata Party, in 1980 and 1984, Devnandan Prasad Yadav of Congress, in 1989 Dhanraj Singh (Janata Dal), in 1991 and 1996 Brahmanand Mandal won the election. Candidates of Rashtriya Janata Dal in 1998, Janata Dal (United) in 1999, Rashtriya Janata Dal in 2004, Janata Dal (United) in 2009 and Lok Janshakti Party in 2014 won the elections. Lalan Singh had contested the 2019 elections on JDU ticket and won.
