Thane. Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra has arrested a taxi driver for murdering a woman. Police gave this information on Sunday. Police said that on the morning of April 25, the body of a 27-year-old woman was recovered from a drain in Uran area of Navi Mumbai, which was in a mutilated condition and wrapped in a blanket. Senior Inspector of Uran police station, Satish Nikam, said that the police sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case against an unknown person under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and other sections.
The police officer said that during the investigation of the case, the police got information that a woman had gone missing on April 18 from Mankhurd police station area of Mumbai. The officer said that upon investigation it was found that the body found in Uran was that of the missing woman. He said that investigation found that there was a love affair between the woman and the taxi driver resident of Nagpada, Mumbai. He told that the woman was pressurizing him to marry her, but he refused, which led to a dispute between the two.

The police officer said that on the evening of April 18, the taxi driver took the woman for an outing to Khadavali in Kalyan area of Thane district. He told that he allegedly killed her at around 1 am on April 19 and threw the body in the drain. Police said that the accused was arrested on Saturday and produced before the local magistrate after which he was sent to police custody till April 29.
