Madhya Pradesh News: Bhopal(State Bureau). The state government will seek suggestions from farmers to encourage organic horticulture farming. For this, an organic farmers’ conference will be organized in March. This was stated by the Minister of State for Horticulture Bharat Singh Kushwaha. He was speaking at a meeting of the Horticulture Department at Mantralaya on Thursday. He said that grant would be given as financial assistance to the horticulture farmers doing water chestnut cultivation in the state. These decisions have been taken keeping in mind the suggestions received from the farmers in the Divisional Farmers Workshop.
The Minister of State said that District Horticulture Advisory Committees would be constituted at the district level for expansion of horticulture sector and implementation of farmer-friendly departmental schemes. Farmers of the concerned district will be members in these committees. The program will be decided based on the suggestions of the farmers to promote organic horticulture farming.
Horticulture farmers doing organic farming from all the districts of the state will be called in the Kisan Sammelan. Districts will be given the target of constructing pack houses, onion warehouses, cold storages for storing horticultural crops according to their need to the farmers.
The Minister of State said that according to the demand of the farmers, the department would provide improved varieties of seeds and plants. In particular, plants of guava varieties like VNR Ice Khana, Pink Taiwan etc. will be made available. At the same time, it has been decided to give the amount of grant to the farmers in installments through DBT under Pali House and Shednet scheme.
Kushwaha said that it was decided to implement other suggestions given by farmers including grant on seeds of medicinal crops, disposal of pending cases at bank level in ‘One District-One Product’, quality testing of seeds, fertilizers, medicines. Will plan to provide subsidy for fencing the horticulture crops to keep them safe from stray cattle and wild animals.
