Raipur (Naiduniya Representative). Mahashivratri 2022: There are three such Shiva temples in the capital, which range from 200 years to more than 600 years old. Due to the recognition of these temples, there is an influx of devotees to visit here in the month of Mahashivratri and Sawan. In the Shiv temple of Sarona, the couple come here to have a son’s darshan. Devotees reach from far and wide carrying Kanwars to anoint the Shivling and ask for prayers. The most famous of these are Hatkeshwar Mahadev at Mahadevghat, Shiva temple in Sarona village and Budheshwar Mahadev temple in front of the old pond.
Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple
Hajiraj Naik built the temple of Hatkeshwar Mahadev 620 years ago during the reign of Brahmadev Raya, son of the Kalchuri king Ramachandra. This temple is the temple of Mahadev on the banks of Kharun river, about 10 km from Jaystambh Chowk, the heart of the city. Like the Mahakal temple located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the temple of Mahadev Ghat of Raipur is famous. Akhand Dhuni is burning here for 500 years. A fair is held near the temple on the banks of Kharun river. The fair is the center of attraction twice a year. The first fair is held on Kartik Purnima and the second on Mahashivratri.
Is. There are about 50 small and big temples around Mahadevghat. Among them Kali temple, Radha-Krishna temple, potter temple, Hanuman temple made of marble, Sai temple etc. are famous.
Tortoise Shiva Temple of Sarona
The famous Shiva temple in Sarona village is more than 250 years old. Here husband and wife come to pray for their children.
The temple is situated between two ponds. It is also known as the tortoiseshell Shiva temple. The pond in which this temple is built has turtles of more than 100 years of age. It is considered auspicious to see these turtles. It is said that the owner of 14 villages, Late Gulab Singh Thakur, did not have a child, a Naga Sadhu who came from Junagadh Akhara asked to dig a pond and build a Shiva temple. By doing this, Thakur was blessed with two sons. Due to this belief, husband and wife come together from far and wide and ask for their prayers. There is also a temple of Goswami Tulsidas, the only saint of Chhattisgarh, right next to the Shiva temple.
Budheeshwar Mahadev Temple
The pond which was excavated by King Brahmadev. It is called the old pond. This pond is famous in the name of Budha Dev, the presiding deity of the tribals. It is believed that snakes used to wrap around the Shivling near the pond. After this the Shivling was installed by making a temple. Presently it is famous as Budheeshwara Temple. Right in front of the Budheswar temple is a more than 200-year-old banyan tree. Every year, women gather here to worship under the banyan tree. There is a cremation ground located at a short distance from the temple, aarti is done by applying ashes on a particular festival.
