Pat Cummins Australia Cricket Team: The Australian team has to play its last match against Scotland in the T20 World Cup 2024. But even before this, Australian fast bowler Hazelwood had created a controversy by saying that if the Australian team gets a chance in its upcoming Group B match against Scotland, it will try to knock England out of the tournament. But now Pat Cummins has given a big statement on this.
Pat Cummins said this
Australia’s top fast bowler Pat Cummins did not take Josh Hazlewood’s comments seriously and said that they would never try to manipulate their net run rate to knock England out of the current T20 World Cup as it would be ‘against the spirit of cricket’. Cummins said in the press conference that I think you try your best every time you go out to play and if you don’t do that then it is probably against the spirit of cricket. We haven’t really thought too deeply because it (manipulation of run rate) has never been discussed.
I was speaking to Josh Hazlewood who joked a bit about it the other day and I think his statement was taken a bit out of context. We will go there and play against Scotland, who have had a very good tournament so far and it will be a tough match.
This equation is being made for England
However, Australia’s manipulation of the net run rate is no longer in the equation after England’s stunning eight-wicket win over Oman in Antigua on Friday. The win has lifted England’s net run rate to plus 3.08, well ahead of Scotland’s plus 2.16. England can enter the Super Eights if they beat Namibia on Saturday and Australia beat Scotland. However, if Scotland (five points) beat Australia, England (three points) will be knocked out of the tournament.
