Meta has taken a big action in India and removed millions of obscene posts from its social media platform. Meta has shared this information while releasing the compliance report of April 2024. Meta said that it has deleted 11.6 million obscene posts on Facebook due to policy violation. At the same time, the company has removed 5.4 million obscene posts from Instagram. In the month of April, 13 cases of policy violation were reported on Facebook and 12 on Instagram.
More than 17 thousand complaints received on Facebook
Meta said that 17,124 complaints were received on Facebook in the month of April through the Indian Grievance Mechanism, out of which 9,977 cases have been resolved. The company said that there is a provision for specific violations, self-remediation flows etc. through a pre-established channel, from where users can download their account data. The social media platform has released a monthly report of the action taken in April under IT Rules 2021.
Meta said that 7,147 complaints were received on Facebook for specialized review, out of which action was taken on 4,303. The remaining 2,844 complaints were reviewed, but no action was taken. Meta said that a total of 12,924 complaints were received on Instagram, out of which 5,941 complaints have been resolved.
Nearly 7 thousand complaints were received on Instagram
6,983 complaints were received on Instagram for specialized review, out of which action has been taken on 3,206 complaints. The remaining complaints were reviewed, but no action has been taken. The company said that we take action on the content (photos, videos, posts) present on our social media platform when they do not meet the standards set by us. Since the implementation of IT Rule 2021, those social media platforms which have a user base of 50 thousand or more have to issue a compliance report every month.
