Mithali Raj, who is captaining the Indian women’s cricket team in the upcoming ICC World Cup, says she has achieved a lot in her long career but her dream of winning the World Cup trophy remains unfulfilled. The ICC Women’s World Cup is starting from March 4 and the Indian team has to play the first match against Pakistan on March 6.
Mithali was part of the Indian team in the 2000 World Cup played in New Zealand itself. After more than two decades, she is captaining her team in this country. Meanwhile, there was a time in 2017 when Team India lost to England in the final. Apart from this, she was also a part of the team that finished second in 2005.
The journey of the World Cup started 22 years ago
Mithali said in the video posted by the ICC that I have come a long way since the World Cup 2000. That World Cup was also played in New Zealand itself. Due to typhoid, I could not play in the matches of that World Cup, now I am here again. It has been a long journey and I want to end it happily.
India lost the series against New Zealand
Mithali said that I want all our players to do well in the World Cup. This will help India bag this coveted cup. India had lost 1-4 to New Zealand in the previous series but Mithali said her team is ready to give their best in the World Cup to be held from March 4 to April 3.
He said that the areas we wanted to improve before the World Cup, we focused on the last series and the matches before that. The team is now consistently scoring over 250 and we will try to maintain that in the World Cup as well. Mithali has scored 7623 runs in 225 ODIs, which includes seven centuries.
