The government has sanctioned Rs 1523 crore for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). With this, state-of-the-art weapons will be procured for these forces and their IT infrastructure will be improved in the next five years. The armed central forces also include CRPF and BSF.
The Union Home Ministry said in a statement that the implementation of Modernization Plan-IV of the CAPFs will help in enhancing the efficiency and improving preparedness of these forces. This will strengthen the internal security system of the country.
CAPFs include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles. The CRPF is mostly deployed for internal security and fighting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, the Border Security Force (BSF) protects India’s border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Apart from this, it also provides internal protection.
Similarly, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guards critical installations such as nuclear plants, airports and metro networks, while the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) guards the Indo-China border.
