Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that in the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, it has been decided that the price of sesame will be increased by Rs 523. There will be an increase of Rs 480 per quintal on moong. 358 per quintal on sunflower. Groundnut will be increased by Rs 300. It is worth noting that before 2014, purchases were made on 1-2 crops. After the coming of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the rest of the crops were also added to it and the income of the farmers has also increased. Significantly, for the third year in a row, the government has increased the minimum support price for Kharif crops. The new MSP of 17 Kharif crops was approved in the cabinet meeting.
MSP is the minimum support price that farmers get for their crops. The market fluctuations in the prices of crops do not affect the farmers, that is, even if the prices of that crop in the market are low, but the farmers have a MSP. The government fixes the MSP before every crop season on the recommendation of the CACP (Commission for Agriculture Cost and Prices). Paddy (Rice), Maize, Jowar, Bajra, Moong, Groundnut, Sugarcane, Soyabean, Urad, Tur, Kulthi, Jute, Flax, Cotton etc. under Kharif. Kharif crops are sown in June-July. They are harvested in September-October.
Ten in-orbit communication satellites to be transferred to NSIL
The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to transfer ten in-orbit communication satellites from the Centre’s court to New Space India Limited (NSIL), a country gearing for a space revolution. It is a wholly owned public sector undertaking of the Government of India. The cabinet has also approved the proposal to increase the share capital of NSIL from Rs 1000 crore to Rs 7500 crore.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved various agreements with several countries. Under this, the proposal for signing a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on cooperation in the field of industry and developed technologies was approved. The two countries had signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on 18 February this year.
This has the potential to increase trade between the two from US$ 60 billion (Rs 4.57 lakh crore) to $100 billion (Rs 7.63 lakh crore) in the next five years. The cabinet also approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the SN Bose National Center for Basic Sciences, Kolkata and an institution from Germany, aimed at scientific collaboration in the field of innovative magnetic and topological quantum materials.

- The Cabinet was apprised of the MoU for Technical Cooperation in Urban Water Management between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Government of Australia. The MoU was signed in December, 2021. This agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of urban water security.
- The Cabinet approved signing of MoU between Department of Biotechnology, Government of India (DBT) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), USA. This agreement will contribute to the development of new, improved and innovative biomedical devices and technologies to prevent and treat HIV, TB, COVID-19 and other emerging infectious and neglected diseases.
- The Cabinet was apprised of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan and the Aryabhata Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), India to establish a collaborative guideline. The objective of this agreement is to conduct and implement joint research on air quality and climate change.
