Dubai . Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was on Saturday elected the new President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Mohamed bin Zayed, 61, will be the country’s third president after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died on Friday at the age of 73, reports Khaleej Times.
Sheikh Mohammed is also the Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces. He is elected by the Federal Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates.
He will hold office for a term of five years before being eligible for re-election.
