The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Thursday said it has issued a notification detailing the procedure for detailed investigation of road accidents, the Detailed Accident Report (DAR) and how to report it – separately for all the parties involved. stated with time frame. This has been done to ensure speedy disposal by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).
One of the important steps is that it will be mandatory to provide a valid mobile number in the Vehicle Insurance Certificate. When an investigating officer receives information about an accident, he must take photographs of the accident site, the vehicles involved, and prepare a site plan. Photographs of any injured person will also have to be taken in the hospital. After talking to the eyewitnesses, further inquiry will also have to be done.
The notification further states that the Inquiry Officer has to inform the Claims Tribunal (claims tribunal) within 48 hours of the accident by submitting the first accident report or the FAR in Form I. A copy of this Form I must also be given to the victim or victims, the State Legal Services Authority and the insurer. Also it will be uploaded on the website of the state police.
In so far as the driver of the vehicle involved is concerned, he/she will have to provide a blank copy of Form III and fill in the required information and submit it back to the police within 30 days of the accident.
