Uttar Pradesh’s notorious mafia Mukhtar Ansari died of a heart attack on Thursday. Mukhtar, who was in jail, was taken to a hospital in Banda after his health deteriorated. Crime starts at the age of 15
Mukhtar Ansari was born in the year 1963 in an influential family. He entered the world of crime to involve himself in the government contract mafia. In the beginning of 1978, at the age of just 15, Ansari entered the world of crime. Then the first case was registered against him under Section 506 at Saidpur police station in Ghazipur. By the year 1986, another case was registered against him under section 302 (murder). After this he entered the world of crime.
Named in several cases of murder and kidnapping
Action was taken against Mukhtar Ansari under the Gangster Act in the murder of the then MLA Krishnanand Rai in Ghazipur district on November 29, 2005 and the kidnapping and murder of businessman Nand Kishore Rungta alias Nandu Babu in Varanasi on January 22, 1997. Ansari was convicted in the murder case of Awadhesh Rai, elder brother of current Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai. In 2003, he was also convicted for threatening the jailer of Lucknow District Jail. While in jail since 2005, he had 28 cases registered against him under the Murder and Gangster Act and was convicted in eight criminal cases since September 2022. At present, 21 cases were pending against Mukhtar Ansari in various courts.
Big hold in politics too
Mukhtar Ansari was first elected MLA from Mau in 1996 on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. He continued his winning streak on this seat in the 2002 and 2007 assembly elections as an independent candidate. In 2012, Ansari formed Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED) and won again from Mau. In 2017, he again contested elections from Mau and won. In the year 2022, Mukhtar vacated the seat for his son Abbas Ansari, who won from this seat on Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party ticket. He was lodged in various jails of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab for the last 19 years.
In which cases punishment was given?
Recently, Mukhtar was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case of fraudulently obtaining arms license. This was the eighth case in the last 18 months since September 2022, in which Mukhtar had been sentenced by various courts of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Ansari was sentenced to five years and six months in the case of kidnapping and murder of Nand Kishore Rungta. He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in a case registered under the Gangster Act. Ansari was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of Awadhesh Rai. In a case registered under the Gangster Act in 1999, Ansari was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment. Mukhtar was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in two separate cases registered against him under the Gangster Act in 1996 and 2007. In 2003, he was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for threatening the jailer of Lucknow District Jail. (input language)
